Long Island Divorce Lawyers Say the Internet Causes Breakups

According to some Long Island divorce lawyers, the Internet is becoming more responsible for the breakup of marriages than ever before. Most of these marriages do end in divorce. But why? Here are some reasons.

The Internet is so easy to access and with million of people on there finding others who are behind a screen is too easy. Since most of this is anonymous, the inner fantasies come out and often become addicting. Many spouses use the Internet as an escape for the problems at home. This is where the beginnings of problems for couples take on another level. Trust becomes an important issue and with the computer easily locked and items deleted, oftentimes the other spouse thinks the worst.

The Internet is most popular with younger couples with most problems from those between 25-35. This is where most divorces come from that are caused by the Internet. Some of the specific reason are:

Chat rooms: There is a chat room for every type of activity and interest known. Since people are behind a screen and keyboard, it is easy to delve into the most forbidden areas as nobody knows you and you can remain anonymous. It is almost like role-playing but when you are married is this a form of cheating. Sure everyone has thoughts and desires but to act them out online with another person other than the one you are married to is not fair. How would you feel if the other person in your marriage was doing this? It is just the same as if you found a phone number in the pocket. Look at all the trouble the Internet causes as there are tons of shows on TV that catch people who are doing illicit things.

Adult: Many marriages are affected or break up because the spouse was looking or buying online adult material. Many times the other person finds out and feels inadequate that the spouse needs to find others to be interested in. Feelings of hurt and trust broken often lead to bigger problems which all leads to breakup and possibly divorce. When children are involved, the situation gets even worse.

Email: With the anonymous nature of some websites, emails are a mechanism to get in touch with others under the radar. Access is found everywhere...laptops, desktops, cell phones, beepers, etc that you can be online 24 hours a day so the odds of being caught are slim. Free email accounts by major companies make this practice easy.

The Long Island Divorce Lawyers recommend counseling before any divorce proceedings or consultations begin for the health of the family members.
